To maximise efficiency we request all patients to arrange to have blood tests taken by the Health Care Assistant or Practice Nurse two weeks prior to the appointments so that these are available when you see the Doctor.

Thursdays 2.00pm - 3.00pm

These clinics are run by Health Visitor Di Hill, and Dr Juliet Rayner, for child developmental checks and immunisations in conjunction with an experienced Practice Nurse, and allow an opportunity to discuss other problems, eg sleeping, feeding and child health worries with a Doctor or Health Visitor.

We immunise children in line with the national programme. Click here for Routine Childhood Immunisation Programme.

Important Note:  All parents are reminded that when your baby or child needs to have its immunisation, the parents will need to be present or give written permission for their child to receive an immunisation.  If a booking is made and the parents are not bringing the child in themselves, written and signed confirmation must accompany the child stating that the parents are happy for this procedure to occur.  Otherwise the Surgery is unable to proceed.

Run by Practice Nurses to offer advice on vaccines and medicines needed for travelling.  Please make an appointment at least eight weeks (longer for backpackers) in advance of your holiday to ensure adequate cover.  A charge will be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations which are not covered by the NHS.  Please advise the receptionist of your intended destination when booking this appointment.

Where payment for these services is applicable, it will be required up front or, in some cases in advance, eg for courses of travel vaccinations.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE CAN ONLY ACCEPT PAYMENT BY CASH OR CHEQUE.  Note: We cannot accept payment by debit or credit card.

Elsenham Surgery is an authorised Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre and so are able to offer this vaccine.

The Flu is not a severe cold.  It's clever.  It continually mutates, so this year's virus may be difference from last year's.   Annually, this vaccination is offered to anyone felt to be particularly at risk from this disease.  An influenza vaccination is particularly recommended for the over 65s; patients with heart, lung or kidney disease, diabetes and residents of nursing and rest homes.

Depending on availability of vaccines, we normally carry out this programme in October, in preparation for the winter.  Please contact the reception staff in October for details of the vaccination dates and to make an appointment.  If you are unable to attend the surgery, a home visit will be arranged to undertake this facility.  Your Doctor may also advise you to have a ‘flu jab if you are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person.

The Practice also holds a Saturday Morning Flu Clinic during October for patients who are unable to attend during the working week, or for patients whose Carer is only able to bring them to the surgery at a weekend.

Elsenham Surgery offers smoking cessation advice to all patients on a one-to-one basis.  There are many products available and all the help you need to kick the habit.  These clinics are run by our Health Care Assistant and our Practice Nurses.  Please contact reception to make an appointment.

Know Yourself, Know You’re Safe is West Essex Primary Care Trust’s campaign to screen young people aged between 15 to 25 against chlamydia.  It is a free service supported by nurses and other healthcare professionals and is available at Elsenham Surgery to registered patients.

Patients can either make an appointment with the Practice Nurse, or just drop into the surgery during one of our Teenager & Young Adults drop-in sessions and ask to see the Practice Nurse (click here for our drop-in session details).

Remember

  • Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI).
  • 1 in 10 sexually active young people aged 15-24 who are tested have chlamydia.
  • Most people who have chlamydia have no symptoms and so don’t know they have got it.
  • It can affect males and females.
  • If you are gay or bi-sexual you are still at risk of getting chlamydia.
  • If left untreated it may cause infections and infertility.
  • It is easily treated with antibiotics.
  • The test and treatment are free.
  • The test and results are completely confidential. You decide how you want to be informed of the result – choose between text, phone call or letter.

Patients are seen by the Doctors during surgery hours. All the Doctors provide antenatal care and work closely with the Midwives and Health Visitors to care for you and your baby.

Dr John Schofield, Dr Juliet Rayner and Dr Richard Nunn carry out minor surgical procedures such as moles or skin tags by excision or cautery at Elsenham Surgery.  Minor Surgery sessions are run regularly by appointment.  The Doctors will be happy to advise you on this.

If you are aged 75 years or over and not seen regularly for any on-going medical problems, you should be seen annually either by your Doctor, the Practice Nurse or District Nurse.  This can be arranged at the surgery or, if that is not possible, a home visit can be arranged.

Our priority is NHS work.  However, the Doctors are happy to offer non-NHS services to patients by appointment. These include private sick notes; adoption/pre-employment/fostering/HGV and driving medicals; insurance medicals; ‘To Whom It May Concern’ letters.  Please telephone the surgery for an appointment. The receptionists can advise you of the charges for these services, or click here to see a full list of our charges.
