Elsenham Surgery

About Us

We would like to welcome you to our Practice. This website has been produced with the aim of helping you to access the best possible care from the Practice.

The Team

We are a team of five Doctors, four Practice Nurses and a Health Care Assistant - all available for your treatment and health promotion.

We also consist of a Dispensing team of four and a Practice Administration team of nine.

Wheelchair Access

The surgery is modern and purpose built, and has been designed to accommodate the disabled. It is ground floor level with an easy ramp leading to the front door. The toilets are suitable for wheelchair use.  If you have any special requirements please let the receptionist know.

Carers

We recognise the important role of Carers in looking after dependent relatives or friends. Caring for someone is an important and valuable role in the community, which is often a 24-hour job that can be very demanding and isolating for the Carer.

Please make it known to the receptionist if you are caring for someone so that you can be offered access to accurate information on a range of topics such as entitlement to benefits and respite care, and not least, a listening ear when things get too much.

Violent and Abusive Patients

The practice is committed to producing a high quality of care to our patients. The relationship between the patients and those working in the surgery is an important issue and is a two-way process. Therefore, in order to protect both the staff and other patients we respectfully point out that this practice supports the Government’s NHS zero tolerance zone campaign.  Violent and abuse is a growing concern.  GPs and their staff have the right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused.  Violent patients will be reported to the police .

Patient Responsibilities, and How You Can Help Us

In order to assist in the smooth-running of the surgery, we would ask that you:

  • Be on time for your appointment
  • Inform the surgery, as soon as possible, if you are unable to keep a booked appointment
  • Call for a home visit or urgent appointment before 10.30am
  • Ring for test results between 12.30pm and 2pm on 01279 818005
  • Do not smoke in the surgery building or any part of the surgery property
  • Switch off your mobile phone in the surgery building, both out of courtesy to other patients and due to the effect upon some of our medical equipment.

Your Comments

We are proud of the service we offer and constantly look to improve.  We are always   pleased to receive your comments.

Complaints

We very much welcome any suggestions for improvements in our Practice, and if you have a complaint about any specific episode, we'd like to hear about that too.  If you don't tell us we can't make things better.  You can write to one of us, tell a receptionist or doctor, or ask to speak to Mrs Jenny Walsh, Practice Manager, who has particular responsibility for this area.  We take both suggestions and complaints seriously and guarantee to respond to you.   Our complaints procedure is in line with the national criteria, and a copy of our complaints procedure is available from the reception desk.

How the Practice Uses Personal Information

To give you the care you need we keep information about you including any illnesses, test, prescriptions and treatment you have received.  Access to this information is limited to staff involved in your care and treatment. This personal health information is stored securely on paper or on computer, or both. We sometimes share relevant information with other organisations involved in your healthcare. For example, when your GP refers you to a specialist at the hospital we send relevant details about you in the referral letter. We also need to use your personal health information for administration tasks, but we only use relevant information.

No information is passed to any non-clinical organisation outside of the surgery without your written consent. The law sets out how we can use your personal health information.

The Data Protection Act (1998) gives you rights about how your personal information is used, including the right for you to see the information we hold about you. If you have any questions about how we use your personal health information please contact the Practice Manager.

Can you help us?

We are looking to develop a Register of Helpers.  If you feel that you could offer some time to the helping of patients registered with the practice then we would be interested in hearing from you, eg. giving lifts to the hospital.

Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI) gives everyone, regardless of age, nationality, gender or location the right to request information from organisations such as Elsenham Surgery.
